Enhancement of the control Crew Chief responsibilities: After lengthy discussions with local management about changes to the control crew chief and their responsibilities it has been made abundantly clear to them that with these enhancements one Crew Chief will not direct another Crew Chief and that the contract must be adhered to. This issue was discussed again at the recent Crew Chief meeting last week and again while the role of the control Crew Chiefs will change it will not violate the contract. The control Crew Chiefs will take a more active role in the planning of trips within their zone in each complex and the assignment of support help. They will coordinate with the control CSM as to what is happening in the zone and the CSM will decide and make the assignments. The control Crew Chief may/will communicate with the gate Crew Chiefs similar to how things worked with the old H6 gate board and the C-Con and B-Con Crew Chiefs.
The gate Crew Chiefs will be responsible for running their gate and communicating with the zone control Crew Chief what their lunch/meal period plan is and if there will be an issue with getting their crew to lunch. They will work with the zone Crew Chief as to what plan is developed and implemented for their lunch/meal period. If, as a gate Crew Chief, you feel that you are being directed by a zone Crew Chief tell the zone Crew Chief that direction needs to be given by the Zone CSM. This plan is understood and agreed to by local management and Local 512.
If you have a problem with any CSM, talk to them and if there is no resolve, take it to the shift manager and have the conversation. If you still do not get them to recognize and comply with the issues above call one of us and we will get Managing Director of ramp services Salisbury involved. Managing Director of ramp services Salisbury was very clear on his intent to abide by the contract with these changes and after the thousands of dollars in grievances the company paid out regarding management directing the dumbwaiter crew a few years ago, that contractual violation and penalty should serve as a reminder of his responsibility.
Powerstows: Rumors on the ramp have been circulating (mostly by management) about the staffing of gate crews while using the powerstow veyors. To be absolutely clear on this issue, at no time has any Officer or Representative of this Local had any discussions or reached any agreement about staffing of the gate crews while using the powerstow veyor. It is Local 512's contention that there needs to be two people in the belly when using this equipment but again no discussions have taken place with management on this issue. Anything else you're hearing is pure speculation, rumor and just fictitious.
